Physically: Handstand. Mentally: Being open to and accepting differences of opinions and views. It’s tough.

What would you chance if you had the power to do so?
Equal opportunities for everyone. I would like everyone to have the opportunity to learn, create, travel and express themselves. Starting position and family of origin should not have so much influence on a successful, happy life.

What superheroine power would you like to have?
A photographic memory. I can’t memorise anything and would actually like to read so much more and always have my knowledge at my fingertips.

Kristina Appel is a journalist, presenter and podcaster. She is an expert in the field of equal opportunities and working women*. As an editor and moderator for herCAREER, she is dedicated to socio-political and economic issues that affect women*. As Senior Editor at XING, she focussed on the topics of New Work, modern leadership and the compatibility of work and family. At EMOTION Verlag, she primarily reported on the topics of (mental) health, society, and of course, women and work. Together with her colleague Julia Möhn, she realised the annual special issue WORKING WOMEN, the career event EMOTION Women’s Days and the Working Women podcast ‘Wir arbeiten dran’ for several years.

What moves Kristina are spaces in between. As an author and editor, she loves contrasts, but is always looking for connecting elements. She practises intersectional feminism, is annoyed by patriarchal structures and keeps a close eye on developments in the work of the future. Kristina wants to promote equal opportunities and help shape a healthy, constructive society.
How can she do this? With patience and persistence: her work helps us to understand old-fashioned, outdated mechanisms and to constantly challenge them so that we can build new, more sustainable structures. Kristina sees it as her job to ask these often uncomfortable questions tirelessly and in a pleasant way.
