What drives you?
I have been very lucky in my life to have many loving people and great role models around me who have shown me what is possible and have given me the feeling that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. And this feeling, has shaped me for life. I am convinced that if my chances are one in 100, the worst case scenario is that I have to repeat something 99 times before I reach my goal, but success is certain. This conviction drives me. And if there is the possibility that I can be the “messenger of courage” for just one more person, just like others have been for me, then this thought drives me even more.
Best advice you ever got?
When I was about to take an exam, my mother used to tell me a Portuguese proverb: “Calma, descontracao e estupidez natural”. This means “calm, relaxation and natural nonsense”. With this saying, she always managed to ground me, give me a more relaxed approach to things, and remind me not to take things too seriously.
What are you learning now that you are not yet very good at?
Saying no without having to justify it.
What would you change if you had the power?
I would make sure everyone saw each other as equal inhabitants of the same Earth. Without prejudice or judgment. I would make sure that everyone could zoom out and see that we are all the same.
What superhero power would you like to have?
I would love to have the superpower of unlimited access to my subconscious, because I firmly believe that we humans already have unconscious superpowers that we don’t understand or fully realize. I think having access to this would mean so many new abilities and possibilities for me and would completely shift the boundaries of my limitations.
Maura Oerding
Inspiring stories and personalities have a much stronger impact than facts and figures when it comes to building trust and convincing people. Telling stories, setting impulses and broadening perspectives is exactly what drives Maura in her work. As one of the few young female inventors in Germany, as well as a founder and CEO, she shares her journey, knowledge, experiences and stories of challenges, courage, failure and success in transformative motivational speeches, workshops, keynotes and mentoring programs. What young person has not had great ideas and an irrepressible creative drive within them? Maura is there to provide her audience with the crucial spark and fuel to rekindle that drive.
The problem with (un)equal opportunities: $28 trillion is the price we all pay every year for gender inequality. Equal participation of women would enrich the global economy by that very amount every year. $28 trillion! Maura Oerding is on a mission to enrich our global economy by supporting the financial independence and participation of women. Starting with 2,000 coffee farmers in Rwanda, whom she represents in her role as managing director of the Kaffee-Kooperative. As an entrepreneur, she is committed to building bridges and infrastructure for more sustainability, profitability and future viability, while promoting equality as a crucial growth factor. As the inventor and owner of multinational patents, she is committed to ensuring that more women and young people have access to know-how about innovation and change (only 7% of all patent holders are women). She is passionate about her work with the women’s network Female Business Access and as a speaker, mentor and role model for the current and next generation of aspiring leaders and innovators. It is work she is truly passionate about.
Maura’s topics are in high demand and are well received in a variety of settings.
